Getting Started

How do I create an account?
Open the app and tap "Don't have an account? Register". Enter your email address, choose a secure password and confirm it. Accept the privacy policy and tap "Register". You can start right away!
I forgot my password - what should I do?
On the login screen, you'll find the "Forgot password" option. Enter your email address and you'll receive a link to reset your password. Also check your spam folder if the email doesn't arrive.
Is the app free?
SmartShopr offers a free tier with basic features. Premium subscriptions unlock unlimited lists, supermarkets, receipt scans, and budgets. There's no advertising.

Shopping Lists

How do I create a new shopping list?
On the main screen, tap the plus icon (+) in the top right. Enter a name for your list (e.g., "Weekly Groceries" or "Party") and confirm. The new list is created immediately and you can start adding products.
How do I add products to a list?
Open a list and use the input field at the bottom of the screen. Type the product name and press Enter or the plus icon. The product will be automatically assigned to the appropriate category.
How do I change the quantity of a product?
Tap on a product in your list. You'll see plus and minus buttons to adjust the quantity. The default quantity is 1. You can also use units like "kg", "g", "pieces" or "packs".
How do I delete a product or list?
Delete product: Swipe the product to the left and tap "Delete".

Delete list: Swipe the list in the overview to the left or open the list and use the options menu in the top right.

Categories & Sorting

How does automatic categorization work?
SmartShopr has over 690 products stored in a database. When you type "Milk", the app automatically knows it belongs to "Dairy Products". For unknown products, "Other" is used - but you can always change the category.
How do I change a product's category?
Long-press on a product or use the context menu. Select "Change category" and choose the appropriate category. The app remembers your choice and will automatically assign the product correctly next time.

Supermarket Layouts

What are supermarket layouts?
Every supermarket is laid out differently. At one store, produce might come first; at another, it's the bakery. With supermarket layouts, you save the order of departments for your favorite stores. Your shopping list then automatically sorts itself - making your shopping trip more efficient!
How do I create a supermarket layout?
Go to "Supermarkets" in the bottom menu and tap the plus icon. Enter the name (e.g., "Whole Foods Downtown") and optionally the address. Then you can drag and drop the categories into the correct order.
How do I switch layouts while shopping?
In your shopping list, you'll find a supermarket selector at the top. Tap it and choose the store where you're currently shopping. The list will immediately sort according to the saved layout.

Sharing Lists

How do I share a list with others?
Open the list and tap the share icon (person with plus) in the top right. Enter the email address of the person you want to share with. The person must also have a SmartShopr account.
Are changes synced in real-time?
Yes! When you or another person adds, checks off, or deletes a product, all participants see the change immediately. Perfect for family shopping - one person can add products at home while another is at the store.
Can I revoke sharing access?
Yes, as the list owner you can remove sharing access for individual people at any time in the sharing dialog. The person will then no longer have access to the list.

Receipt Scanner

How does the receipt scanner work?
Go to "Expenses" and tap the plus icon. Choose "Take photo" or "From gallery". The AI analyzes the image and automatically recognizes the store name, total amount, and date. You can correct the values before saving.
Can I import digital receipts?
Yes! You can import PDF receipts from store apps directly. Use the "Share" function in the respective app and select SmartShopr as the destination.
Are my receipt images stored?
No! Images are only temporarily transmitted to the AI for analysis and then immediately deleted. Only the extracted data (store, amount, date) is stored - never the image itself.

Account & Data

How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings and scroll to the bottom. There you'll find the "Delete Account" option. You'll need to confirm the deletion by typing "DELETE". All your data will be permanently removed.
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored on secure servers in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). We use Supabase as our infrastructure provider. All data transfers are encrypted via TLS/HTTPS.
Can I export my data?
Under GDPR, you have the right to data portability. Contact us at smartshopr@ug108.de to request a copy of your data.
